PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE | Performance Task

This task is where you exhibit your photography creatively.

 WHAT TO DO:

1. Do your magazine in Microsoft Publisher, however if you are familiar with Adobe InDesign, it would be better.

  • Do not use PHOTOSHOP or any photo editing applications; however use it to add creativity and design to your magazine but should not include the text.
  • Designs can be done in Photoshop but texts should be encoded in publisher.

2. Create a name for your magazine; it should be original and not something that already existed.

3. Choose from among the images from your photoshoot a cover photo.

4. One photo for one page and the opposite page should contain descriptions of the photo.

See pages 10-11 of the MUSICA magazine CLICK HERE

  • Use readable fonts for your descriptions that ranges from sizes 14 - 16
  • Titles however, should be bigger and more striking than the descriptions
  • Paper size: 8.5 x 11

5. Do not forget to include an editorial board on page 2 of your magazine.

  • An editorial board contains the names of the team and their roles in the production of the magazine. It includes: editor-in-chief, associate editor, layout, writer, head photographer.
6. Page 2 of your magazine, or the page immediately after the cover page, should give an overview of the contents of the magazine.

6. Page 3, which is opposite page 2 should talk about PHOTOGRAPHY as an ART. This shall serve as an exposition to what comes in the next pages.

6. Decide how you want your back page should look like and what you want to put there.

Good luck!

PERFORMANCE TASK: NEWSLETTER for Grade 8 | 2023

In this output students are going to put together varied articles in a newsletter.

What is a newsletter?

It is a paper that is not as plain and as news-laden as a newspaper but not as feature-packed and as creative as a magazine. Hence it is something in between. You can be creative but not too much. You can put news but not too much.

There are templates you can use at Google docs and at Microsoft publisher. Use the one that you can work better between the two. Also consider which between the two application can give you better results.

You better check out the samples to see for yourself. CLICK HERE FOR THE SAMPLE STUDENT WORKS

For this years newsletter, take note of the following:

  • Paper size: 8.5 x 13
  • Font: Times New Roman-at least 16 (Article Titles); Arial 10 (Content)
  • Margins: 1/2 or .5 of an inch from top to bottom; left to write.
  • All stories must run through 2 to 4 columns depending on the space. Single column is a NO-NO, especially if it occupies the entire page.
  • Submit docx or publisher file and the pdf file at Google Classroom.
  • Each page must have a header (Page Titles) like this:

The titles you see here are the titles you are going to use per page except for FRONT PAGE, which contains the logo and name of your newsletter. Here are the articles to use for the designated pages:

Front page
Feature your favorite film from the SHORT FILMS FEST during quarter three:
  • You can find the thumbnails and the videos HERE
  • You can also get information regarding the results and other details HERE
  • Observe the elements found on the front page as indicated by samples.

Note: Do not write page number in this page.

News
This is now page 2 of your newsletter; hence page number must already be seen starting this page but shall start counting at 2.
  • This is where you shall put the full news you have written during class.
  • Add another news you can find in the net but make sure you write the author and which newspaper you took it from.
  • You also need to add the editorial board (where names are found) at the bottom part of this page. Since there are only two of you therefore there must be an EDITOR-IN-CHIEF and the LAYOUT ARTIST.
THE SOCIETY
This is now page 3. Here, you are going to feature a persuasive essay written by the Grade 10 students and make sure you have written their names as authors. Choose one from the following:
  • DO NOT copy-paste the entire essay; hence you are to pick paragraphs or important statements from the essay but of course it should follow the same order as it was written.
  • In other words shorten the essay.
  • Find photos or images that could best help visualize the idea you have picked.
  • Don't forget to add credits to the images.
  • Lastly, do not forget to write the authors' names.
SPORTS
This is now page 5. In this page, you are going to quote what Asianistas say about the Intramurals. Choose a number of quotes enough for this page.
Here's a sample format:

Then find photos that will showcase the Asianista Intramurals HERE

REMINISCENCE
This is now page 6. This page will showcase your MUSEUM EXHIBIT during the first quarter. Choose ONE from among these blogs. Don't forget to write the author's name.
HOW-TO
This is now page 7. This page shall feature the process essays written by the Grade 9 students; thus, never forget to write their names as authors. Choose TWO from any of the following:
DIGITAL ART
This is now page 8 but shall not indicate any page number at all. Again, no page number shall be written on this page. This page shall feature the grade 10 students Digital Art blogs. Do not forget to give credits to where credit is due. You are to choose TWO from the following:
----------------------------------------
So, that's pretty it. Good luck with your Newsletters grade 8 and make sure there are NO UNNECESSARY WHITE SPACES found in your layout.

White space refers to the awkward empty portions of your paper.

Therefore plan your layout creatively and wisely.

PARTS OF A RESEARCH REPORT

Each ACT can be composed of one or more SCENES. Hence, an ACT is a component of the Plot while the SCENE of the ACT.

Now, about the ONE-ACT play. This one's a short play about 20-40 minutes which usually runs in one or more scenes. Well, you could use one SCENE for starters.

Here is a SAMPLE of a ONE-ACT play.

A NOTE TO MY STUDENTS!

  • Since your task is a collaboration of your SCIENCE, ARALING PANLIPUNAN, ESP and ENGLISH subjects, you are to create a one-minute video which aims to advertise your product using the concepts of a ONE-ACT PLAY.
  • Hence, this video is an infomercial at the same time.
  • Your video must also stress how your product can benefit your consumers and the community in general especially now that we are experiencing the ill effects of climate change.
So here goes the format to follow in writing your script.

SCRIPT MECHANICS
  • Letter size paper | short bond paper
  • Font: Courier 12
  • Margins: 1 inch

ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN: Performance Task

ROAD SAFETY

Roads are essential to human lives. They serve to connect humanity in terms of commerce and transportation. Without roads, we might have continued to keep to ourselves and not know how our neighbors lived. With this we are now connected and continually learn from our neighbors. However, as time went by road safety has become a great concern.

Hence our task: ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

WHAT TO DO:
1. CAMPAIGN POSTER
  • Create a campaign poster using 1/2 size illustration board.
HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES TO GET YOU STARTED...

2. GOAL OF THE CAMPAIGN
  • Discuss the goals and objectives of your campaign.
  • Why do you want people to observe what your poster says?
3. PRESENTATION OF RELEVANT INFORMATION
  • Present statistics or survey results to support your campaign.
  • If you say drunk driving has cost lives, then you must be able to present numbers to support such. The data you present must be of the PHILIPPINES.
EXAMPLE

4. LOOKING AT THE NEIGHBORS
  • Now, you are going to talk about how your concern of road safety is in our neighboring countries here in Asia: INDIA, CHINA, MALAYSIA, INDONESIA, SINGAPORE, JAPAN and THAILAND.
  • Tell your audience how road safety is in the aforementioned countries.
  • You can also present data to prove your statements.

INTERTEXTUAL ANALYSIS: Performance Task

Intertextual analysis involves reading multiple texts and how they could be connected or related in a way.

My class shall be using two SONNETS for this analysis.

and the sonnet I wrote on the 4th of December 2017. Which is published HERE.

MAIN OBJECTIVE:
Make the connection between two sonnets.
  • What ideas are discussed in both poems?
  • How are the poems different or similar?
BUT BEFORE THAT...
Get to know the theories of Literary Analysis. Students must be able to look into the following first:
1. Formalism Theory: Discuss the structure and the form of both sonnets. Click HERE  for the components of a Shakespearean Sonnet.
2. Mimetic Theory: How does the sonnet relate to relationships; now and then?
3. Expressive Theory: What are the authors of each poem trying to convey?
4. Reader Response Theory: How does each poem appeal to you in general? How do you connect to the poem?

MECHANICS:
1. Use the MLA format. You can check out the format in this video.

2. Check out the components of your analysis HERE
3. Use GOOGLE DOCS and make sure it is shared to the groupmates (if by group) and to the teacher.
  • Set the paper size to letter size.
  • Double spacing
  • Justified alignment
  • Times New Roman 12
4. Submit link to Google Classroom by pasting the link in the personal comment to make sure students still have the editing writes to the document.

ADVOCACY FRAMEWORK: Performance Task

Let us first begin with what advocacy is. ADVOCACY is the giving or getting of support to support someone's rights, ideals and the like. By doing an ADVOCACY FRAMEWORK as a performance task for my students, Miss Ara and I agreed that it is a presentation of how the students extend their world in the classroom into the real world and craft a plan on how to be able to support, aid or make concrete master plan to augment the existing problems of the society.

In this task, we do not ask students to assume they are professionals, hence we make them think of prospect professionals or personalities who can help them make their advocacy happen.

So here's the TEMPLATE.

ADVOCACY STRATEGY TEMPLATE

BACKGROUND
Brief and situational analysis. This part requires you to research about existing problems in your immediate society and the possible solutions that could be done to it. This is where your advocate comes in.
  • What is the problem?
  • Present a data presentation like bar, line graph and the like to show significant result of a study conducted with relevance to the problem you have chosen. Take this one for an example.
  • Why advocate on the issue?
AIM
Long-term goal that the group wants to contribute towards
  • Basically, what you are planning is not a one time solution. Imagine this plan to be running on schedule because once your plan is simply for the now, then it is not an advocacy at all. The goal is to ensure your plan goes on even when you are not there anymore to manage it. Because it is long term, it could be passed on and designated to the next in line.
OBJECTIVES
Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time-bound objectives
  • Do these contribute to the realization of your aim?
Hence, before you craft your objectives, it is always wise to that you have understood the aim of your project. So, go ahead and review it, then you can already start writing your objectives. Make sure your objectives are DOABLE.

TARGETS
Identify your target audience or in this case the group of people you want to help. Then think of effective prospects, meaning people who influences these type of people. Someone who might be able to make changes in the way the think or the way they live their lives.
  • Who has the power to  make the necessary changes?
  • Who influences those people?
ALLIES/PARTNERS
Who can work with you to build momentum and support?
  • Now that you have already thought of influencers, it is time to think bigger. You would be needing established groups or personalities to work with you in order to promote your project, if not catapult it to success. Remember that you are but students, so you need big people, big companies, big names; if not big then at least someone or something established.
ACTIVITIES & OUTPUT
Now layout your plans in attaining your objectives. What sort of activities have you prepared and what expected output do you visualize your stakeholders shall have in each activity. Stakeholders would refer to the group of people you are trying to help; the one who will benefit your advocacy. Use a suitable graphic organizer for this one.
  • Craft your policies
  • Advocacy promotions
  • Engagement of key stakeholders
Also present in a web diagram how your team plan on mobilizing your advocacy. Here's an example:
This diagram is TOO WORDY, so when you make yours limit to a word or short phrases per box or circle.

KEY MESSAGES
  • What is your message to your stakeholders?
  • What do you want them to learn in all this?
TIMELINE
Present a chronological arrangement of how your activities shall reach the attainment of your goal.
This sample timeline shows that the advocacy is short-term now you must be able to think of something long-term. Something that does NOT happen in a span of one week and it is done.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What roles and responsibilities does each member of the team carry. Yes, the team. Use a suitable graphic organizer for this one.

BUDGET
It goes without saying that any advocacy without funding will be a struggle. Since you already have identified your benefactors in this project, it is wise to present a clear budget schedule for the project like transportation, food and other relevant expenses.
  • You must also bear in mind that budget goes with the span of time the project will run. Be it weekly, monthly, annually, quarterly, biannually or biennially.
  • Expenses and time should be considered altogether.

WRITING THE REFLECTIVE ESSAY

Here are the essential activities students go through in order to write a reflective essay of a story.

TASK 1: SUMMARY
  • This is one way to test the students comprehension of the story. One can only summarize if the story read has been understood.
TASK 2: ORGANIZING THOUGHTS
  • Students look into the story once more with a different perspective. They look at it as something that reflects Filipino culture, customs , tradition and even history.
  • CULTURE OR TRADITION IN....
These are the Filipino culture or tradition that are eminent or are shown in the story. No need to worry, these are already given in the first column so you don't need to look for these anymore; just copy what you see in the template: Gambling and entertainment, status in society, table etiquette.
  • SCENE FROM THE STORY
Now, you are going to state the scene or event in the story where in the traditions found in the first column of the table above is shown. State it briefly; refer to the sample: Husband insisted the chicken was a hen. DO NOT copy lines from the story as such would be lengthy. Hence, state it in your own simple words that are direct to the point.
  • RELEVANCE TO FILIPINO HISTORY, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS
You are to write the specific Filipino tradition/culture evident in the scene you wrote in the second column. Since it said that the husband insisted the chicken was a hen so the Filipino tradition is: Patriarchal family tradition putting the father to have the last say over family matters. In other words, this column actually explains why the characters acted as such.
  • YOUR OPINION
Since you already have indicated why the characters acted like they did in the story. now you are to write your opinion or reaction about such tradition. In the third column, I wrote: Patriarchal family tradition putting the father to have the last say over family matters. So if I were to give an opinion for such I'd say: Mothers must also have a say in family matters. Keep your opinion short and direct to the point. Do not be tempted to explain it; don't worry, you shall be discussing it once you are already writing your reflective essay.
  • ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE
This part is where you can present proof to help you explain YOUR OPINION. Since I said that mothers must also have a say in family matters, it would be a week statement if I can't defend it. So here's my evidence: Most mothers now also work to help fend for the family. Again, do not be tempted to explain it; remember what we are doing is drafting our thoughts. Wait till you write your essay for the discussions.

TASK 3: THE INTRODUCTION
  • This is the first paragraph of the reflective essay.
  • Here are guide questions to help students form their thoughts then into writing.

You could write it like this:

The story ________________ by ________ is about ____
______________________________________________
______________________________________________
__________________________________________. This
 essay will talk about _____________________________
____________________________________________.

NOTE: Let your introduction run in 4 - 5 sentences.

TASK 4: THE BODY
  • This is now the part where you are to use the TABLE you have previously filled out.
  • You are going to discuss each of the topics found in the first column of the table: Gambling and Entertainment, Status in Society and Table Etiquette.
  • Here's a sample of how to use the information in your table.

A scene from the story talks about how the husband insisted that the chicken was a hen and therefore ended up with the mother crying; he was sorry though. This shows the prominence of patriarchal family traditions among Filipinos . Well, I say  nowadays, considering the many things women can do which may be at par with what men can do -  there is no need to treat women as inferior to men. Hence, mothers must also have a say in family matters as they too work to help fend for the family. Family matters must be dealt by all the members of the family -  even the children as they concern them too.

See how the information in the table are used to form your paragraph.

NOTE: Since there are three topics in the first column of your table, it means there are three paragraphs for your body.

TASK 5: THE CONCLUSION
  • This is now the fifth paragraph of your essay.
  • In this part you can either impart a new learning or a realization as a take away for your readers.
  • Or simple answer the question: What do you want to remember after reading your essay?
TASK 6: THE REFLECTIVE ESSAY
  • The students publish their essay in their blog.

Watch the video to learn more about writing the reflective essay.
