How to SYNTHESIZE information from varied sources | INTERMEDIATE

To synthesize means to put together or combine ideas from two or more sources in order to form a new idea.

HERE'S WHAT TO DO:

1. First read about the idea assigned to you. You are to read these ideas from varied authors; ideally three sources does it for a simple synthesis.

- Or if your teacher provided you with the articles already then you'll have to focus on them.

2. Get an idea that is common among the sources you've read.

- It could be positive or negative. You can actually do this using the template below.

NOTE: Your task is NOT to summarize the articles, instead get each articles side of the issue at hand; or the specific idea/topic each of them is talking about.

3. Now, you can already put together those ideas in one paragraph to form your synthesis or the new idea you have come up based on the sources you've read.
