CHANGING DIRECT TO INDIRECT SPEECH

The table below is a guide on how to change direct to indirect speech. Here's how:

  1. Identify the tense of the reporting verb. (Refer to rule number 3)
  2. Identify the type the reported speech belong. (declarative, imperative, interrogative, exclamatory, optative)
  3. Identify the verb tense of the reported speech. (Refer to the table the arrow points for the conversion.)
  4. Make the other necessary changes: pronouns, time indicators, etc.
